TO MAKE YOUR PRESENCE FELT...
BE A VOLUNTEER!!!!!

The Pickett PTA is currently looking for people to be on the Nominating Committee for the selection process of finding next year's PTA Executive Board for 2007-2008.  If you are interested in serving on this Nominating Committee, please contact Karen Smith at 863-0617 or email her at snrasmith@msn.com.  The Pickett PTA will have several open positions for next year.  The position descriptions below can give you an idea of what is available.  If you are interested in serving on one of the committees or if you have an interest in a position, once again, please contact Karen Smith.

To help in your decision making, below is a description of PTA Committees:

PRESIDENT - Preside over monthly PTA meetings, appoint and coordinate committees.  Bring out the "delegator" in yourself!  An excellent way to get involved and get to know the students, parents and staff of Pickett!

VICE-PRESIDENT - Aide to president - Help President in carrying out PTA duties at Pickett.

COUNCIL REP/2ND V.P. - Be in the know in GISD  - This requires attending a GISD council meeting once a month and reporting back to the Pickett Board.  This is a great opportunity to know what goes on at other schools and to network with GISD Board of Directors, Principals and other PTAs.

TREASURER- Count the money - Treasurer is the authorized custodian of the funds of the PTA.  He receives and disburses all monies indicated in the budget.  This is a weekly task, as deposits need to be made; checks written and taxes filed and present financial reports at meetings.  An accounting background is helpful, but not necessary.

SECRETARY - ALWAYS IN THE KNOW - Attend the monthly PTA meeting and keep accurate records of the proceedings at the meeting.

PARLIAMENTARIAN - A chance to be fair and impartial - Attend monthly meetings and advise the Chair of motion procedures and Roberts Rules of Order.

COMMUNITY LIAISON - FRIENDLY, CHANCE TO KNOW AREA BUSINESS PEOPLE - Helps to get contributions from local businesses, HEB, Shakes, Walmart, Gattiland for awards assemblies for students. Most of these relationships with businesses are established with Pickett and this is just follow up work. Also, work with Williamson County Sun to publicize Pickett events.

LIBRARY BOOKFAIR - FIRST CHOICE ON BOOK SALES - Coordinate volunteers for setting up and working during bookfair, spring and fall.

KID'S BIRTHDAYS - BIRTHDAYS ARE WONDERFUL - Coordinate the making of cupcakes and distribution for monthly birthdays. This is a once a month commitment of calling someone with a child's birthday that month and having them make cupcakes and distribute at 2:30 usually outside the cafeteria on the 15th of each month.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR - Encourage involvement at school - help grade reps and others, music, nurse, art and p.e. in recruiting volunteers for various activites throughout the year (Excel knowledge helpful).

DAD'S CLUB - THE MAN'S CHOICE - Organize a group of dads to help with various PTA activities throughout the year.

FIELD DAY COMMITTEE - RECESS TIME - Chair the committee in charge of several people that will help put together this awesome event. Planning usually starts in February and Field Day is in May. This event gets a lot of parent and community support. The chair is basically responsible for gathering other committee members and overseeing.

STAFF BIRTHDAYS - CREATIVITY, CRAFTY - This is a chance to who off your artistic and creative abilities in helping to prepare something for the Pickett staff birhtdays and distributed on a monthly basis.
