Softball Board Meeting Notes

The TASO Softball B oard met on Friday 01/09/2004 before the start of the State meeting. This was a rather long but very productive meeting with the following highlights:

  • Committee has started work on the Operating Procedures for TASO Softball and a preliminary draft will be reviewed at the off-season B oard meeting.
  • Peter Contreras gave a UIL report.
  • Bud Alexander discussed the financial status of TASO as a whole.
  • Several additional committees have been set up by the Executive Director in order to assist him in the operation of TASO.
  • Preliminary budget for TASO Softball was presented and the importance of paying dues by the designated deadlines was stressed.
  • Uniform & Training committee made several recommendations and the following items were approved:
      1. Navy jacket with TASO Softball lettering will become mandatory in 2005.
      2. In order to be eligible for post district play (playoffs, state tournament, etc.), a member must have attended a regional clinic or the State meeting.
      3. District Directors and state officers are not eligible to work the State Tournament of the All Star game.

  • Because of the new training requirements more regional clinics will need to be offered and more regional clinicians will be needed.
  • Awards committee will work on making the award requirements more understandable and present it at the off-season Board meeting.
  • It was suggested that the deadline for awards nominations be changed to July 1.
  • There will be some responsibility changes for the participating umpires at the State Tournament.
  • Austin chapter will give the President a breakdown of the expenses incurred last year for the umpire hospitality tent at the State Tournament and a dollar amount will be determined for each chapter?s contribution. It was stressed that all chapters need to support this effort not just a few.
  • Preliminary redistricting proposal was made with a more detailed analysis to be presented at the off-season Board meeting.
  • TASO State meeting for 2005 will be in Odessa January 7-9.
  • Discussions & decision for location of State meeting in 2006 (and beyond) will be done at the off-season Board meeting.
