Lloyd's of London is the world's leading insurance market providing specialist insurance services to businesses in over 189 countries. In 2004, 66 syndicates are underwriting insurance at Lloyd's.

Lloyd's America, the US subsidiary of Lloyd's of London, is the liaison between the London-based insurance market and its US producers (brokers who bring business to Lloyd's syndicates). The company provides information on the market, including statistical information, and on insurance requirements. It also provides lists of approved brokers and correspondents in the US and UK so US brokers not affiliated with Lloyd's can contact it to place insurance business, all of which is underwritten in London. That the US is Lloyd's largest market (35% of sales) makes this an important function. Lloyds of London is A- "Excellent" rated by A.M. Best in the largest financial category available, over $2 Billion in statutory capital and surplus.
