Religous Garment Exceptions by the UIL

The University Interscholastic League has granted exceptions to National Federation equipment rules in special situations, including religious reasons.

Exceptions are predicated on the fact that the hair covering or other item is worn for religious reasons and is not dangerous to other players or made of a hard or unyielding substance.

Exceptions will also be granted when other garments are worn for religious reasons. Garments such as leggings may be worn. The team shorts must be the outer garment. The part of the garment that is not covered by the uniform shorts must be of a solid color, the same basic color of the uniform shorts.

Garments worn under the uniform jersey may also be worn for religious reasons. These must follow the guidelines of Rule 4 Section 1 Article 1. "If visible apparel is worn under the jersey, it shall be of similar length, all alike and of a solid color." (all players on the team are not required to wear apparel under the jersey if 1 or more wear the apparel).

These exceptions are predicated on the fact that these items are worn for religious reasons and are not dangerous to other players.
